First edition. 8vo. Orange cloth, titles and pictorial design stamped in brown on the front cover, [12], 195 pp., foreword, frontispiece [portrait of the author], illustrated mostly from photographs, portraits, bibliography. This book is from the library of Custer historian John S. Gray and with his neat bookplate affixed to the front pastedown sheet. This little-known book contains important source material on Sitting Bull, Gall, Crazy Horse, Rain-In-The-Face, Custer's home life, Charley Reynolds, Curley, Isaiah Dorman, and Frank Grouard. Includes the campaign diary of reporter Mark Kellogg from May 17 through June 9, 1876, as well as Rain-In-The-Face's version of his killing Tom Custer. Interestingly John Gray has made several pencil notations throughout the text that add a more complete dimension of some events. Spine lightly faded else a solid very good copy without dust jacket, as issued. A scarce title.
