First edition. 8vo. Cloth, xiii [1], 268 pp., frontis. [portrait], historical introduction, foreword, illustrated, map, index. Foreword by Lieutenant-General Nelson A. Miles, U.S.A. General Miles, who knew Kelly well, compared him with such wilderness heroes as Daniel Boone and David Crockett. He explored the extensive northwest country years before serious hostilities occurred and acquired a knowledge of its topography, climate, and resources that proved to be exceedingly valuable. Kelly campaigned with Miles against hostile Indians in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming. Lightly rubbed at the spine ends and corners, else a very good, tight copy without dust jacket.
