Illustrated and designed by Don Perceval. In 1909 a sensational double killing in Southern California led to what has been called the West's last famous manhunt. Willie Boy, a Paiute Indian who killed the father of a girl he loved so he could run off with her, is chased by a posse across more than 500 miles of harsh desert wilderness. This story was immortalized in the Robert Redford film, Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here. This work was awarded the James D. Phelan Award in Literature, and Desert Magazine awarded the book with the Southwest Literature Award. This copy has the original prospectus laid-in and the bookplate of Herschel C. Logan affixed on the verso of the front fly leaf. Herschel C. Logan (1901-1987) was a noted artist and printmaker. Inscribed at length on the dedication page: "For Herschel Logan who up to this moment had - so far as I know - the only existing copy of a rare unautographed edition of Willie Boy - Harry Lawton." A fascinating read.
