First edition thus. 8vo. Pictorial wrappers, 40 pp., illustrated, map, bibliography. An updated and revised version of General Crook's campaign against the Yavapai and the Tonto Apache people of Central Arizona 1872-1882, whose objective was to locate and bring the Yavapai and Tonto Apache under military control and ultimately onto reservations. The campaigns were unusually dependent upon Indian scouts who were able to track people by following trails, locating hidden camps, moving troops through difficult country, and conducting small-scale military operations.
