Publication: Somerville Bellanack & Co, 1887, Montreal

4 1/2" x 6 3/4" card stock, folded into thirds. Program compiled by the Johnston Fluid Beef Company and offering information on six days of the various activities to take place each day. Beautiful illustration of winter activities across front side panels to include people sledding, snowshoeing, and skating along with an illustration of the crystal palace at center. Illustrations printed in shades of green, red and white, with an emblem welcoming the visitor to the carnival. The opposite 3 panels offer 6 days of daily information. Daily activities include opening of Lumberman's and Hunter's camps; Grand Opening of the Lansdowne Tower; displays of Johnston's Fluid Beef; the Canadian Pacific Railway collection of Manitoba grains and grasses; Grand Opening of the Ice Palace; opening of Toboggan Slides; Carnival races, Snow-Shoe races; Crystal Rink Dancing Competition; Grand Sleigh Parade; Johnston's Fluid Beef on draught; Grand Hockey Tournament; the Grand Ball; etc. The story of Johnston's Fluid Beef began in 1870 in the Franco-Prussian War, when Napoleon III ordered a million cans of beef to feed troops. John Lawson Johnston, a Scot living in Montreal, had the task of providing it. Transportation and storage were problematic, so Johnston created a product known as Johnston's Fluid Beef, later called Bovril (beef broth), to meet the need. Light soiling or tanning to bottom portion of program side and with light wear to folds and extremities. Very good.
