Publication: The Huntington Library Quarterly, 1953, N P (San Marino, California)
First separate printing. 8vo. Reprinted from The Huntington Library Quarterly, Volume XVI, Number 4, August, 1953. Inscribed on the cover "To Jeff - Juicy Dykes - with fear and trembling, from Hutch," Jeff Dykes was a fellow author, author, and historian. Printed stapled wrappers, 381 - 392 pp., footnotes. The author goes into great detail to discuss the writings of authors who primarily write "Westerns." Points out that authors write to "entertain" the reader and cites several authors such as Gene Rhodes, Stewart Edward White, Frederick Schiller Faust and three of his aliases reserved for Western writing, plus many others. His interesting explanation of "virgins, villains, and varmints" as the title is also of interest. All edges lightly tanned and vertical crease to the center, else a very good copy housed in a cloth case with titles stamped in gilt on the front cover.
