An interesting document sworn to by Robert Jackson and John Gordon on July 17, 1877, before Justice of the Peace, Nelson Gibson. The complaint asserts that John Riley, between the hours of 7-8a.m. did, in the town of Central City in Lawrence County, Dakota Territory, "unlawfully wrongfully, and feloniously and with malice aforethought...killed a valuable New Foundland dog and then swore that he would kill any son of a bitch who took the part of the dog, with his revolver drawn on the parties." The document goes on to say that," Plaintiff is to be held in the sum of two hundred dollars, to appear before the first District Court and that he is hereby committed to the care of the constable". Document is signed by John Gordon, Robert Jackson, and Nelson Gibson. Highly legible with 3 horizontal folds. Some very light soiling.
