Set in Jericho, Kansas, in the late 19th century, a struggle for power between two men involve the entire town. Lawyer Dave Connors is married to Belle, the town lush. Connor's best friend's wife makes a pass at him ... a pass that he immediately rejects. She retaliates by printing vile lies about Connor in the town paper. The result is the complete destruction of Connor, causing him to leave Jericho.
