Penciled name on front pastedown sheet and rear interior hinge starting to fray a bit, else a near fine, tight copy in an attractive dust jacket with minor wear to the spine ends. A scream in the night and the blood-curdling cry of a woman being strangled. The next morning Helene Baird's body was found, but Dr. Davey said she died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The elderly maid who found the body agreed with the doctor's verdict, and promptly disappeared. When the funeral was over, Judge Lonsdale was asked, "Who murdered Helene Baird?"
