Publication: Press of Woodward & Tiernan Printing Co, 1896, St Louis
First edition. 8vo. Pictorial wrappers, 224 pp., illustrated, maps. index. Illustrated mostly from photographs. This book was published jointly by four railroad companies as a guide for immigrants to consider Texas as a possible homestead. The book is essentially divided into four sections where each railroad promotes their system and advantages to travel with them to several Texas counties that they serve and they provide information on climate, industry, agriculture, etc. Many old photographs of towns and cities such as Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas, Laredo, San Antonio, Houston, etc. As an addenda the Texas Gulf Coast is also reviewed. Pages 9 through 24 are bound in upside down and backwards, spine panel reinforced with old cellophane tape, front cover loosened along foot to midway up spine, with a few small chips to the extremities, else a very good, internally clean copy. Housed in a cloth cover which inserts into a matching cloth slipcase with titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine. An uncommon booklet.
