West was the first Protestant missionary in the Red River Settlement, and this is a journal of occurrence, with descriptions of life, activities, and people. "Made headquarters on the late Earl of Selkirk's farm near Ft. Douglas. In winter traveled by dog sled to Brandon House, describes the life there, and the customs of the natives. Final chapters deal with the Esquimaux and remarks on Arctic exploration." Fine copy.
