Annie D. is widowed and enjoys tending to her gardens and enjoys visits from her old high school friend, Phoebe, whose disgraced daughter, Lacey, was sent to California after becoming pregnant by Casey Boots, a disgusting person from the unsavory side of town. Lacey, still bitter, returns nine years later for her mother's funeral and is reunited with Casey. They attempt to start a new life, and at this point a series of crimes begins. Three young women are raped and murdered.
