Reprint. Simulated Leather. 300pp. Illustrations. A nice reprint of the 1833 first edition of this exploration and fur trade rarity. James O. Pattie, with his father, joined a party headed for Santa Fe in 1824. They remained in the region until 1828, when they both joined a trapping expedition to California. Upon reaching the Mission of Santa Catalina they were arrested by the Mexican governor. Pattie's father died in jail. After a year in jail, James attained his freedom, traveled across Mexico to Veracruz, then returned to the United States by ship. A classic account of the early adventures of the Patties in the Southwest. Near fine.
