Publication: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1936, New York:
First U.S. edition. Very good in bright dust jacket with one small closed tear to top edge of front panel. A well-to-do collector of antiquities, Daniel Penrose, has disappeared. After some time, his absence causes serious complications in the administration of his father's estate. The lawyers ask Thorndyke to find him. It seems that Penrose left in a panic after killing a woman and the police are having a hard time tracking him down.
