First edition. 8vo. Two-tone boards, titles stamped in black on the spine, cream-colored front and rear endpapers, [10], 254 pp. prologue, illustrated from photographs. The author at age thirteen ran away from home in Michigan in the 1930's to his uncle's ranch in eastern Oregon. He became a cowboy on Yamsi, one of the last great cattle ranches of the West. He eventually became a rodeo rider, bull fighter, rodeo clown, and photographer, working with the likes of Slim Pickens and Mel Lambert, who went on to careers in Hollywood. His photographs have been featured in LIFE magazine. After World War II he took over the reins at Yamsi, ensuring its survival in changing times. He tells his story with humor and a love for the land. As new, unread copy in dust jacket. "The Pastures and Beyond" is a winner."--- Tony Hillerman.
