Publication: The Dial Press, 1928, New York
First U. S. edition. Pseudonym for Lucy Beatrice Malleson. Author's second book using this pseudonym. Former owner's inked name on front pastedown sheet, light foxing to the front and rear endpapers, with some light scattered foxing to the fore-edges, else a very good copy in a bright crisp dust jacket with a few short tears and missing a few small chips at the edges. Dust jacket art done in color by Carroll C. Snell. The second appearance of Scott Egerton, a rising young British political leader. On the eve of his marriage to a wealthy society woman, Sir Denis Brinsley is confronted with a person from his past .... Mrs. Helen Davenport. Helen is being blackmailed and wants Brinsley’s help. In exchange for his help she’s offering him certain indiscreet letters written fourteen years earlier that, if revealed, would probably put an end to his marriage plans. Brinsley refuses and Helen is shortly afterwards found strangled. Scott Egerton investigates. A nice copy.
