First edition. A paperback original. Inscribed by the author on the title page:"To Barry / Best wishes / Ed McBain." Second book of the 87th Precinct series finds a mugger on the loose who has a unique calling card; after he's attacked his victim, he bows and politely says, "Clifford thanks you, madam." The police want Clifford badly, as he eventually turns to murder. This book is the basis for the 1958 film of the same name that starred Kent Smith, Nan Martin, and James Franciscus. Minor rubs to the covers else a fine, bright copy. This is the nicest copy of this book that we have had in years. There may be a copy as good, but none better.
