Smith & Son, London" at top of front free flyleaf, minor wear to the extremities, page fore-edges lightly spotted. An historical novel set in the 17th century in the marshes of Lincolnshire, around the "Isle of Axholme". A celebrated real-life mystery, the manuscript of the novel having been left in a red box at the publisher's office anonymously.
