First edition. 8vo. The story of a young Englishman who came to the U. S. to invest family funds. He took detailed notes of his journey to New York, across the plains to California, onward to British Columbia, back to California, and to Lincoln County, New Mexico, where he was involved in both the mercantile and ranching businesses. Somehow he became the nemesis of a nefarious "ring" who were determined to drive him out or kill him. They eventually succeeded in the latter. Six Guns 1614 says "An excellent book, long overdue." Non-authorial small inked gift inscription at top of front free fly leaf, else fine, bright copy in a price-clipped dust jacket with minor wear to head of spine and bottom edge of rear cover.
