Sayers Society, who has selected and annotated the most revealing and stimulating letters from the many hundreds Sayers wrote. Each volume also contains a preface by P. D. James. Together, they form a fascinating new portrait of a remarkable woman and writer.

Volume Two covers the seven years in which the detective novelist becomes a playwright and a controversial figure.

Volume Three introduces a new period in the life of this detective novelist. The turning point was in 1944 when she began reading Dante for the first time and her life was changed.

Volume Four : "1951-1957: IN THE MIDST OF LIFE." Red cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, xix [blank], 449 pp., preface, introduction, acknowledgments, illustrated mostly from photographs and color plates, index. Volume Four is the final volume of The Letters of Dorothy L. Sayers which span the last seven years of her life. In this time period she finishes her translation of Dante's Purgatorio and brings out two volumes of lectures, Introductory Papers on Dante and Further Papers on Dante.
