One 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" leaf, printed one-side only, a listing of provisions needed for one year for an expedition to Alaska. First and apparently only edition of this provisions list for gold to seekers, recruited for the J. C. Metcalfe Alaskan Expedition to Cook’s Inlet in November, 1897. The provisions supplies were to include flour (400-500 lbs.), corn meal, rolled oats, rice, beans (100 lbs.), sugar, assorted dried fruits, salt pork, butter, bacon (150 lbs.), tea, coffee, laundry soap (only 5 lbs.), 1 complete medicine case, axe, handle, chisels, hand saw, and even 200 feet of 1/2 inch rope. The Metcalfe expedition was sponsored by the Land Promotion department of the Great Northern Railway, and advertised to prospective Alaska Klondike gold seekers in the New York Journal & Advertiser, Nov. 5 & 28, 1897 before the expedition headed to Alaska. Two faint horizontal folds, penciled notations, and lightly soiled, else a very good copy. From the library of former California State Librarian, Gary Kurtuz.
