Publication: 1907, Denver

First Edition. Stiff Printed Wrappers. [21]pp. "Written in 1877 by Major General Grenville M. Dodge and Read to the Colorado Commandery of the Loyal Legion of the United States at Denver April 21, 1907." Sent by Grant to launch a winter campaign and protect the stage lines, Grenville recounts in great detail the entire campaign against the Plains tribes. Dodge operated out of Fort Kearney, Nebraska, and selected Luther North as chief of scouts. He also describes the actions of the Indians and his personal observations of them. Dodge was known as "Long Eye" because of his use of engineering instruments in the 1850's. One of the scarcest of Dodge's pamphlets. Bottom 2" of front edge of spine is split, as is the top 1", of the fragile original wrappers, else a near fine copy.
