First edition. Fine, bright copy in a fine bright dust jacket with a hint of wear to the head of spine. Dr. Montague, a scientific investigator of ghostly phenomena, has chosen to live for several weeks at Hill House, by repute a place of horror that will brook no human habitation. He selects three companions previously unknown to him. The two girls, Eleanor and Theo, are chosen because each has had a minor, accidental brush with the supernatural. The young man, Luke, is the heir to Hill House and more than anxious to participate in the program. This book is the basis for several films, most notably "The Haunting" (1963) directed by Robert Wise and starred Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, and Richard Johnson. Stephen King says that the book is one of the greatest horror books of all time. An exceptional copy.
