Publication: Ginn and Company, 1931, Boston
First Edition, First Issue. Silver-stamped Blue Cloth, xv, [blank], 525 pp., Preface, Introduction, Illustrated, Maps, Drawings, Index. This first issue has two typographical errors in the chapter heading on page 10. The author's first major book about the plains. "A well-written book with a long chapter on the cattle industry."--Adams. "Webb surveys all life on the plains, and much of what he discusses relates directly or indirectly to the range industry. The sections on water and fencing are two of the best. A must for every western library."--Reese. Previous owner's bookplate and signature on front endpaper. Very lightly rubbed, else a fine copy in the very scarce dust jacket. Dust jacket shows considerable wear with chipping to corners and spine ends, a 1.5"x2.5" piece missing from upper portion of rear panel, and previous owner has used clear cellophane tape to internally reinforce edges of spine, and a few other edges, and used same tape externally at bottom fore-corner of front panel. In all, a nice copy of the very scarce first issue of this classic work, in a very scarce, but fair dust jacket. A nice signed presentation by Webb in the year of publication. Protected in a custom slipcase.
