First edition. Author's second book. Inked inscription on the front free fly leaf : "Heath Hosken / with best wishes from / R. Austin Freeman." Bound in brick-red cloth, stamped in black on the front cover and gold on the spine. This is the second binding, lacking the illustration on the front cover of the first, of which only 150 copies were printed. Corners lightly bumped, trivial fading to the spine and minor wear to the spine ends. A very good+ to near fine copy that is very scarce and rare signed. Housed in a custom clamshell case with red leather spine labels and titles stamped in gilt. Dr. Thorndyke mysteries.
