Publication: Frank C Baker, State Printer, 1894, Salem, Oregon

First Edition. Full Leather. xii, 719 pp., Muster Rolls, Index. A classic study, divided into 4 sections: The Cayuse War (pages 1-263), Rogue River Wars (pages 267-420), The Yakima War (pages 423-500), and Muster Rolls (pages 503-700). "The author, one of the best Northwest historical writers, was commissioned by the Oregon legislature to record the history of the early wars with the Indians of the Northwest. Set forth in detail are the causes, the events, and the records of the Cayuse war, the Rogue River wars, and the Yakima war that occurred during the first ten years of the Oregon Territory. The last 200 pages set forth the detailed muster rolls for each of the three wars, presenting the names of the soldiers and officers, their rank and companies, and the dates of service. There is also a very detailed Index to the entire volume."--Tweney-The Washington Eighty-Nine #79. This important work was determined by the State of Oregon to be "used and given away by said grand commander to pioneers and veterans of the Indian wars, who have had the largest experience in the early history of Oregon". This work was published bound in cloth, with some bound in half and three-quarter leather, and a few bound in full leather. We offer a beautiful copy in original full leather binding. The previous owner wrote his name on front free-endpaper and wrote that it was "Present by State of Oregon", and also that it was given to his son. Some discrete, minor professional reinforcement to inner hinges, else an exceptionally fine, bright copy. Raised bands, with title, author, year of publication in gilt on spine.
