Publication: GP Putnam's Sons, 1936, New York
First edition. 8vo. Original brown cloth, gold stamping on front cover and spine, 542 pp., frontis., [portrait], preface, foreword, illustrated, folded geneology chart, index. Probably one of the best, if not the best, book on the James Brothers and their gang, with the information provided by former Missouri Governor, H. H. Crittenden. A large section of this book deals with the rounding up of the James Brothers and their gang, and outlawry in Missouri after the Civil War. Adams 150 #37 says, "A large portion of this book is devoted to the lives of the James brothers and the trial of Frank James. Governor Crittenden offered the reward which ultimately led to Jesse's death." A fine, bright copy in the very scarce dust jacket. Fragile dust jacket is rubbed, has some light soiling, moderate edgewear with some light chipping to spine ends and portions of the upper edge of back panel, and two 1" closed tears to edges. Signed presentation by Governor Crittenden on half-title.
