Publication: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1922, New York
First edition. 8vo. Inked gift inscription on the front free fly leaf: "To Clem Yore with the very warm regards of Philip Ashton Rollins, July 29, 1922." Rollins further writes "A poem on the cowboy would have been copied onto this leaf, had it not been for the fact that Clem Yore himself is the author of by far the best poem on that subject. P. A. R." The verse by Clem Yore that Rollins describes is affixed to the front pastedown sheet. Clem Yore 1875-1936, was a journalist, novelist, and poet. Red cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the front cover and spine, xiv [2], 353 pp., preface. Very difficult copy to locate in a decent dust jacket. Everything you want to know about being a cowboy. Information on ranching, cattle drives, gear, daily work, breaking horses, the Johnson County War, etc. Fine, bright copy in dust jacket with advertisements on the rear cover for other Scribner publications, small chip to head and foot of spine, light wear to corners and small chip to bottom edge of rear cover. This 1922 publication without the frontispiece and illustrations is believed to be the first issue of the first edition. A choice item with nice association.
