First edition. Near fine copy in dust jacket lightly sunned on the spine, with a small chip to foot of spine and a tiny nick and a small closed tear to top edge of rear cover panel. Private Jeff Mitchell is in the U. S. Army during World War II and is looking forward to a 15-day pass home to be with his wife at their home in California.. But rumor, which plays a fantastic part in the life of men in service, dissolved the plans for going home as a story about a girl named Mary who had been unfaithful to her husband. Jeff, unhappily convinced that this was his Mary did not go home but went to Washington to burn up the town and ease the hurt. This is the story of that Saturday night in Washington which began with too many drinks and ended up with a brutal murder. This story is the basis for the 1947 film noir "Crossfire" directed by Edward Dmytryk and starring Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan, and Gloria Grahame. The author was serving in the U. S. Marine Corp at the time this book was published. We recommend this book highly for your reading enjoyment.
