Publication: Printed by Commercial Printing Company, 1932, Casper, Wyoming

First edition. 8vo. Limited to 400 copies. Inscribed on page six above the author's picture "With my Compliments." Pictorial wrappers, 46 pp., preface, foreword, illustrated, plates, portraits, footnotes. Foreword by Robert S. Ellison. Preface by Dan W. Greenburg. Major Ostrander was a Quartermaster's clerk at old Fort Reno in Wyoming in 1866, and subsequently was located also briefly at Fort Phil Kearny, the next Bozeman Trail fort to the north. He pays due tribute to his old chief, General Philip St. George Cooke, the able veteran of the western frontier. General Bisbee's contribution in this book entirely agrees and endorses all that Major Ostrander has written with respect to General Cooke. The fate of Captain Fetterman and his command of eighty men near Fort Phil Kearny on the Bozeman Trail, December 21, 1866, in an attack by hostile Sioux under Red Cloud is one of the tragic events in the history of the Plains and Rockies region. Words stamped in red at top of title page "Please Acknowledge Receipt With Comments" else a near fine clean and tight copy. A nice resource book on the forts.
