At the conclusion of the Civil War as settlers began to move westward. The Texas frontier became a point of danger due to the Kiowa, Apache, and Comanche Indians protecting their lands. From the large military posts, outposts and picket stations were established in order to better protect the settlers and maintain order. These points were under the control and direction of the larger forts. This book describes the reasons for establishing these facilities and eventually deactivating them. As new, unread copy in dust jacket.
