Publication: The Newberg Graphic, 1945, Newberg, Oregon
First edition. 4to. Color pictorial wrappers, 20 pp., numerous illustrations from photographs, text illustrations, portraits, advertisements. A scarce illustrated rodeo program for the 10th year production of the St. Paul Rodeo in Western Oregon, which touted itself as "Western Oregon's Greatest Roundup Show." Events included the parade with the Rodeo Royal Court including Queen Rose Mae Franke of the Salem, Oregon Saddle Club, Cowboy Bronc Riding, Wild Calf Roping, Bull Dogging, Brahma Bull Riding, and Wild Cow Milking. The 1945 rodeo featured lights for night rodeos, new grandstand, bleachers, and bucking chutes, along with the ever-popular carnival, and gambling tent where poker, blackjack, and slot machines entertained. This rodeo was being held during World War II and the center pages provide a tribute and photographs of men in the service of our country from western Oregon. Also there are reminders to buy U. S. War Bonds. Light wear to the extremities, else a near fine, attractive copy.
