First edition. Inscribed by the author on the front fly leaf: "To Richard. I hope you enjoy this. Sincerely, Charles Willeford." Fine in fine dust jacket. An autobiography of Charles Willeford. At the young age of 16, Willeford joined the Army in 1935, spending time in the air corps in the Philippines and later in the cavalry at Fort Riley. Willeford recalls in brutally frank detail some of the less savory aspects of the Depression Army and explains as many sexual, alcoholic, and military adventures a young man could reasonably hope to survive. Arguably, his best book and uncommon to find signed.
