Six Photograph Albums By A Skilled Photographer Showing Travels In The American West, 1923-1926

Six photograph albums containing a total of 475 photographs, all but a handful captioned in the same hand. All albums are black cloth, measure 7" x 11" and are string tied. Some ties replaced, a few leaves loose or edgeworn, but overall in very good condition. Nearly all images are about 3 1/4" x 5 1/2" (approximately 430) or 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" or slightly larger (approximately 44). The compiler of these albums, likely a woman, is not identified, but the captions contain some clues that may aid in identification. A few name the individuals shown ("Miss Wilkins of Texas," "Miss Hunter of Sioux City," etc.), several mention "Aggie" outings, and approximately 25 images credit photographers -- presumably because the majority of images were not by these photographers, but the work of the compiler. Contemporary newspapers identify one of the named photographers, Walter Early, as a football star at the Colorado School of Agriculture, so it is very likely that the "Aggies" in question were students or alumni from that school. Subject matter includes lodges, camps, homesteads, mountain roads, historic sites, and people mountain climbing, hiking, and skiing. There are many landscape/scenic views, but these are of above-average quality for non-professional work -- uniformly sharp and well composed. Most locations shown are in Colorado to include photos of Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Big Thompson Canyon, Garden of the Gods, Poudre Canyon, Cheyenne Canon, Cave of the Winds, Redstone Ridge, Glacier Gorge, Eagle Rock, Ft. Collins, Mt. McGregor, Hidden Valley, Mummey Range, Deer Ridge, Long's Peak, Moraine Park, Dream Lake, Fall River Pass, Iceberg Lake, Eagle Rock, Chasm Falls, "The Camels," Odessa Lake, Mt. Meeker, etc., but there are also a few nice shots taken New Mexico and Arizona.
