The author traveled overland from Illinois to Oregon in 1851, settled in the Williamette Valley, then moved on to California by steamer in 1858. He relates many interesting experiences. "Being the narrative of C.H. Crawford. His adventures on the plains and among the Indians; massacre of all but two of the wagon train; hardships along the way; the Powder River mines; outlawry, murder and wild times among the miners. Crawford left Illinois in 1851 and finally settled in Sonoma Valley, California in 1858."--Michael Heaston. Front and rear endpapers have been replaced, else a clean, near fine copy, housed in a clamshell case with titles stamped in silver gilt on a leather label affixed to the spine Very scarce.
