PARMENAS TAYLOR TURNLEY

Other works by PARMENAS TAYLOR TURNLEY

Publication: Donohue & Henneberry Printers, Binders and Engravers, 1892, Chicago

First edition. 8vo. On front sheet are the inked words "Limited to 250 copies and privately distributed." Inked gift inscription and signed and dated by the author in 1894. Maroon cloth, designs stamped in blind on front and rear covers, titles stamped in gilt on spine, decorated front and rear endpapers, 448 pp., introduction, preface, frontispiece (portrait), illustrated from plates. The author first relates army experiences with Harney's Sioux Expedition of 1855. During the next five years he was variously stationed at Fort Bridger, Salt Lake City, and other western posts. Michael Walsh of Goodspeeds considered this work as rare in 1938. Flake 9057 says "Trip through Salt Lake City in 1858, and an account of the rise of Mormonism." This copy has a printed broadsheet issued by Turnley to promote his book tipped-in, plus a leaf of contents is inserted which is not found in all copies. An ex-library copy with spine label, a few light library stamps, and a bookplate of the "Military Order of the Loyal Legion" affixed to the front pastedown sheet, front hinge starting, light wear to the spine ends and corners, else a very good copy of a rare book.
