[portrait of the author], preface, illustrated, plates, portraits, list of subscribers. The author accompanied her husband on various assignments in the West. She lived at Fort Lyon in Colorado, Fort Robinson in Nebraska, as well as travelling extensively with her husband throughout the U.S. She provides a detailed account of the Germaine girls who were taken captive by the Indians, along with information about some of the military officers including General Sherman, Miles, Sumner, Chaffee and others. Graff 288 says, "A very good account of Army life at western posts after the Civil War." Very good copy.
