Publication: Published by Adolph Roenigk, 1933, Denver

First edition. 8vo. Decorated cloth, [14], 365 [8] pp., illustrated, plates, portraits, appendix, index. This book is written in two parts. The material for the first part was collected and written by John C. Baird. The work began in 1908 as several contributions were solicited by mail from pioneer settlers living in all parts of the state. The second part is contributed by the author while he was taking a year's course of study at Kansas State University in 1922 and '23. Much on pioneer settlers and their families, early days in the area, Indian depredations, buffalo hunting, ranching, outlaws and lawmen, Custer and the Little Big Horn, battles, railroads, etc. "Lots of Custer material: his time in Kansas and the Battle of the Washita. Especially good is Seventh Cavalryman corporal Stanislaus Roy's account of the Little Big Horn battle, which originally appeared in the Piqua (Ohio) News. Roy received the Medal of Honor for bringing water to the wounded on Reno Hill. Scarce."--O'Keefe 2097. Six Guns 1884 says "Scarce." Previous owner was neatly written extensive notes on the rear endpapers, else an exceptionally clean, tight, fine copy. Scarce dust jacket has some minor chipping to corners and spine ends, else very good-near fine.
