First Edition. Self-Wrappers. Sewn. 8pp. Senate. 18th Congress, 2nd Session. Document No. [79]. Wagner-Camp 30: "Alphonso Wetmore's letter, dated Franklin, Missouri, August 19,1824, describes the journey from Missouri to Santa Fe as easier than the routes either from Pennsylvania to Missouri or from Vera Cruz to Santa Fe. Wetmore asks that Santa Fe trade be encouraged and protected, requesting that the road be surveyed and marked for the benefit of the traders. He tells of Becknell's opening of the trade in 1821 and its subsequent history, information credited largely to Col. Benjamin Cooper." A fine copy, protected in 4-point slipcase with title in gilt on front panel.
