First edition. 11" x 22" sheet folded to 11" x 5," and creating 8 panels. Red front cover panel offers Wallace Smith's iconic "Let'er Buck" image of a rider on a bucking bronco. Two panels offer color advertising from the Pendleton Woolen Mills, a prime supporter of the Round-Up, whose main mill was located in Pendleton, Oregon. The remaining panels list the 160 rodeo participants; the description, purse, entries and schedule of the various rodeo events; and a list of “Famous Cowboys.” previous champions of Bucking, Steer Roping, and Calf Roping, and the All Around Cowboy. The list includes the World Champion Bucking riders Yakima Canutt (1917, 1919, 1923) and the Nez Perce Indian, Jackson Sundown (1916), along with the Police Gazette Belt winner, Hoot Gibson (1912). This 1944 program is from the year the Round-Up was resumed after a two-year “no show” during World War Two. The rodeo and pageant, Happy Canyon, were started in 1909 / 1910, and, except for the two war years, has been held annually. This particular program has been filled in with pencil participants in the Brahma Steer Riding for the Championship of the World; calf Roping Contest for the Championship of the World; Amateur Bucking Contest; and the Steer Roping Contest for the Championship of the World. Light soiling throughout and with light rubbing to folds and light wear to extremities. Very good.
