Manypenny was the Commissioner of Indian Affairs and Chairman of the Sioux Commission. Although the early chapters of this work are devoted to congress with the Indians in the Northeast, the majority of this work is a history of Indian relations in the West. "Much on Indian matters in the West, with material on the Camp Grant Massacre, the Fetterman Massacre, Harney's campaign, Custer, Sheridan, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, and the Battle of the Little Big Horn."--O'Keefe 1557. Also includes the operations of Dunn and Dowling, the removal of the Comanches to the Wichita Agency, various treaties, and more. Very good-near fine, tight condition.
