Not being particularly fond of her husband, when Elizabeth catches Joe kissing another woman, she tells him that she is willing to "disappear" if Joe agrees to pay her $25,000. The three decide they will murder a stranger, leave the woman's body in Joe's garage, set the garage on fire, and then, pretending that the dead woman is Elizabeth, collect the $25,000 from the insurance company.
