The life of John P. Clum is a complicated one as he is best known as Tombstone's mayor during the Earp-Clanton period and the gunfight at the O. K. Corral. He was also the founder of the TOMBSTONE EPITAPH. He engaged in a number of careers and was a weatherman as he telegraphed the first weather report from post Civil War New Mexico. He also was an Indian agent in charge of 4,500 Apaches, he was part of the real estate boom in California, he was a postal inspector, helped to foil an illegal international gambling syndicate, established post offices all over Alaska, etc. He has been called daring, brave, heroic, etc. and also bombastic, impudent, and brash. He was an unusual product of his day and this book provides a wonderful insight into his life.
