Illustrated with color and black and white reproductions of original art by Belmore Browne, in addition to photographs from the archives of the Browne family. Browne was a hunter, mountain climber, and explorer who toured the interior of Alaska in the early days of the twentieth century. At that time Alaska was still largely a white blank on the map and no collection had ever been made of the great mammals of the North. Later he became a nationally-known artist while working for the American Museum of Natural History. As new, without dust jacket as issued, housed in a light blue boards slipcase.
