Publication: Geoffrey Bles, 1936, London
First edition. Author's first and only mystery novel. Fine, tight, bright copy in dust jacket with light professional restoration to spine ends and corners. The disappearance of a volume of essays from the close-packed shelves of the library in Mr. Tomlinson's suburban villa, is the first link in a chain of events that lead to suicide and murder. Penzler p. 125 says "A retired gentleman notices a book missing from his library and he returns to the second-hand bookstore where he originally bought it hoping for a way to recover it and he gets more than he bargained for."
