First Edition. Disbound, and rebound into Quarter Leather with Decorative Boards. 139pp. Senate. 36th Congress, 1st Session. Ex. Doc. No. 42. An important report presenting all correspondence related to all aspects of this infamous event. The Mormons encouraged the Paiute Indians to attack a large train of about 140 emigrants. They killed 16 of the emigrants, who encircled their wagons and defended themselves for the next couple of days, at which time a group of Mormon's visited the emigrants and told them that the Mormons could help the emigrants get away from the Paiutes, but the emigrants would have to give up their weapons. The emigrants did and the Mormons led them on a march toward Cedar City, but along the way the Indians attacked from the side of the trail and joined the Mormons in the killing of the emigrant group. The Mormons kept many of the children, dividing them among several Mormon families, and the also kept much of the valuable merchandise that the emigrants were carrying. A thorough and important historic record. Fine in beautiful Marbled Boards and a blue Niger spine with title in gilt.
