This is a 5 3/4" x 9" map of the Butterfield Stage Routes in Southern California. It has been copied from a map published in "The War of the Rebellion : A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies," Part I, Series I, Vol. 50, page 31, accompanying "Report of the Pursuit and Capture of the Showalter Party at Warner's Ranch in the San Jose Valley, California, November 20 - 29, 1861." The map clearly points out the road from San Bernardino to Warner's Ranch by way of Willow Springs and Temescal. The route of the map covers the stops of the California Overland Express from Los Angeles to Yuma, Arizona. Map previously affixed to another substrate with dried adhesive on the verso, else very good condition.
