Publication: The Missouri Historical Society Collection, 1911, St Louis
A Single hard-bound Volume, in simulated Leather, containing Missouri Historical Society Collections, Volume III, Number 3 and Volume IV, Number 4. The complete volume spans pages [201]-452. The biography of Manuel Lisa appears on pages 233-268 in Volume III-Number 3, and pages 367-406 in Volume IV-Number 4. The first biography of this important early Fur Trader. Lisa was a primary figure in the early development of the Missouri River Fur Trade. Also includes Col. Auguste Chateau's "Journal Of The Founding Of St. Louis," and an original document, "The Spanish Forts At The Mouth Of The Missouri River." Other than light pencil notations in the blank margins scattered throughout the volume, the text block doesn't appear to be a rebinding of the original wrapper-bound issues. Though unknown to us, the publisher may have bound some volumes this way(?). Blind-stamp of western history scholar and author, Arthur Woodward, at top edge of front endpaper. Binding is attractive, in fine condition, with Missouri Historic Society Collections Vol 3, in gilt on spine.
