Tiny strip of sunning to head of spine, former owner's inked name at top of free front fly leaf, and a bit of light scattered foxing to the fore-edges else a fine, bright copy in dust jacket with minor wear to the extremities and a bit of dust soiling to the spine. The English mystery author's sixteenth novel, in which a drama student goes undercover in order to prove a singing star killed her husband. Originally serialized in Collier's magazine between August-September, 1947, its U.S. release by Doubleday (also in 1948) was titled Outrun the Constable. Basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1950 film noir Stage Fright, starring Marlene Dietrich, Jane Wyman and Richard Todd.
