Later printing. Bill Reese has corrected the information on this title as originally reported in his Six Score bibliography. He now says, "In my bibliography, Six Score, I identified this edition with no date on the title page and "1878" on the verso of the title page as the first edition. Examination of a number of copies and discussions with noted bibliographers T. Halladay and D. Sloan lead me to eat crow and declare that these are later printings. The true first is dated 1879 on the title page, and the cover stamping shows one of the Live Boys roping in the lower left-hand corner [replaced by a mean-lookin' gunsel in the reprints]." Pictorial decorated cloth, x, [11], 308p. plus 10pp. of advertisements, 18 x 13 cm. Frontis [tissue], six plates. "The first novel to use a trail drive as the theme of the work, and perhaps the earliest novel to use cowboys to any extent." Six Score 80. Light wear to the spine ends and corners else very good copy.
